Abalone Shell
will a live abalone still be fresh after 2 days in a freezer?
I bought 4 small live abalones a few hours ago and I put them in the freezer with their shells on.
Once they are frozen, they are frozen and no longer considered fresh. Freezing ruptures cells causing them to weep. When defrosted the meat won’t be the same as fresh. Normally you put the albalone in the refrigerator on a bed of shaved ice, cover to prevent odors from invading the meat. 2 days is max for storage. Personally, I get them out of the freezer and hope there isn’t too much damage.
