In the army, after AIT, can you elect to live off-post and simply choose to pay out of pocket?
I’m kind of sick of the giant 50-man bays, a space of my own would be nice… even if I’d have to pay rent out of my base pay, and get no BAH for it!
You can rent a place off-post with your own money as long as this doesn’t cause you any financial problems and you can get to work on-time every day. However, you won’t be living in a 50-man bay anymore. The army is moving towards individual rooms that share a common area with a few other people. Most posts have these now, but even if you don’t get that you will have no more than one roommate.
