what’s the difference between a broze shield and a silver shield in the Macdonian army?
I think you’re thinking about the “Silver Shields” (the Argyraspides in Greek). They were the infantry royal guard unit of Alexander the Great. Their shields were made of bronze but plated in silver.
They were armed no different than other phalangite phalanx units but they were specially picked men known for their skill and discipline.
They were used under Alexander and then were disbanded by one of his generals after Alexander’s death. Another force by the same name was created in the Seleucid Empire soon after.
