How does an assist work? So, by definition an assist is a pass that results in a score?
If a player passes the ball to a teammate and the teammate decides to hold the ball for about 12 seconds, and then drives in and scores a layup, would that be considered an assist or not?
Did the guy get the shot because the pass hit him in the right place at the right time, or did he create his own shot?
You have to use some judgement.
