Bermuda Green
What is the best grass to plant that is outcompetes bermuda, is soft and hearty?
We are buying a place that has no lawn, just weeds now. All over this area is riddled with bermuda grass. We want something that is durable, rich lush green, soft and outcompetes bermuda. We live in the Central Valley of California, where it gets to freezing in the winter and above 100 in the summer. Would like something that has the lush rich dark green blades of grass and can stand up to being walked/played on from time to time
Try St Augustine grass or Tall Fescue. these are the other two commonly planted grasses in California.
Briefly Tall fescue stays gree all year round but requires a little more care than Saint Augustine which does most of its growing in the summer and goes dormant in the winter. It is prety tuffbut has a very wide leaf blade. Tall fescue is probably the most widely planted turf grass around newer homes but requires a quite bit more water.
