Bladed Folding

Why is a knife that locks illegal- purely for this reason? They were built for a purpose and I’m baffled?
I had a 2.5 inch knife with me and was arrested for having a bladed article just because the thing locked into place- the knife had never been seen in public and was only ever used for cutting bread and cheese and work purposes. I am a trucker who eats on the road etc and have lived like this for years- I prefer to eat in the open air and have never had a diet of cooked meals etc like a normal person. The knife was a tool and helped me out of awkward situations like releasing straps in a hurry when tangled- I drive hazardous cargo’s.
The knife was built to lock the blade in place so that it doesn’t fold back onto ones fingers or closes when it is needed.
I’m not bellyaching about the law- I WANT TO KNOW THE EXACT LAW ABOUT THIS AND IF THERE ARE ANY EXCEPTIONS- i.e. I’ve had a staple diet of bread and cheese for over 35yrs and eat outdoors most of the time. The knife has only been used as a tool and NEVER been seen never mind brandished in a public place.
I think it comes down to the purpose the knife was designed for, not whether the blade locks or not. Also, if it’s being carried in a pocket as opposed to a tool belt or case, or something similar.
Although not entirely legitimate, I think your personal appearance and demeanour have a lot to do with it too. Put it this way, I’ve never been searched for a weapon in over 30 years on this planet, so what made them decide to search you. They don’t just do it for no reason.
And you use the same knife for preparing food that you use as a work tool for cutting straps and other non sanitary items?! I can understand why the police might think that quite bizarre and not at all credible – it’s like using drill bits as chopsticks or something.
Frankly, I think you need to get over yourself – this is Britain, you’re a lorry driver not sodding Rambo, and the police have a job to do. Go to Asda and buy yourself a more sensible knife for your food, and keep your heavy duty knives locked away in your tool chest where they belong.
