Bone Half
I got this Beef Bone from a butcher when I ordered half a cow, it’s labeled “Soup Bone.” How should I cook it?
Just trying to get a recipe. I don’t really want to make just a simple stock, I want to make more of a hearty soup. Thanks.
Here’s one approach…
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Take that soup bone (which I’m assuming it will have some meat left on it) and place it in a large roasting pan. Add in some carrots, celery & onions (cut into wedges). Drizzle everything with a little olive oil, sea salt & fresh cracked pepper. Place the pan in the oven and let everything roast for about 30 min. or so. Take some cubes of chuck or stewing beef, dust them with seasoned flour and brown them in a hot oiled skillet. Then, add those into the stockpot. Once everything’s nicely browned add all ingredients into a large stockpot. Add in about 2 Q. of water, 1 C. Guiness Stout beer, 4 whole cloves of garlic (leave the skins on). Let it come to a boil and reduce to low. Let it cook for at least 1-2 hrs. Once the meat is fork tender. Add in small white potatoes, peas. Once the potatoes are tender, add in a generous cut of a butter stick. Stir the pot well and you should have yourself a nice stew. I’ve had a Guiness Beef Stew when I was in London many years ago. It was freezing cold and that piping hot stew really hit home.
