Bone Lock
What is it that causes a bone in the leg/kneecap to lock?
This happens to me, maybe 5 or 6 times on a yearly basis. What happens is I’ll be sitting down or about to change my leg position when suddenly a bone in my leg locks and is out of place, causing excruciating pain and restricting any movement in my leg. The only way I can get it back to normal is if I push it back into place or attempt to stand up, which is extremely painful. This also happens with my kneecap. What is it that causes these to happen? I didn’t think it was that big of a deal until now, when it happened again. Should I see a doctor about it, or if not, does anyone have a diagnosis?
My first thought when I hear that a knee locks up is that you have a torn or dislocated meniscus. Probably most times (if this is the problem), this can be fixed with simple arthroscopic surgery. Sometimes it takes more.
