Boy Scout

Do you have to be a boy scout to become an astronaut?
I heard that to become an astronaut you need to have been a boy scout. Is this true?
No. In order to be competitive you have to be in good shape, and have at least a Master’s degree in a Science or Engineering. You have to be able to speak Science if you want to be able to perform experiments on board.
And remember, a Doctor of Philosophy who was never in the Boy Scouts is much more likely to become an Astronaut than a former Boy Scout with only a Masters Degree. Focus on Academic training first.
If you want to be a mission pilot, you have to be a test pilot as well first.
At the same time… Becoming a Boy Scout is not going to harm your chances either. They will teach you useful skills that may come in handy during your academic pursuits.
However, for something more aerospace-related, I recommend the Civil Air Patrol cadet program. A mandatory part of CAP is Aerospace Education,
