Bread Knife

Homemade loaves of bread are hard to cut. Any suggestions?
I slice it with a regular bread knife. On the last few pieces, there is nothing to hold onto, so I cannot cut a straight piece of bread.
Do those wooden bread cutters help the bread to not be smooshed by my cutting?
I’ve never had any luck with them, but you can try this:
Place the bread, cut side down on the (clean) counter.
Put a cutting board or magazine approximately the thickness of the slice you want BEHIND the bread.
Put the tip of the knife on the board, place your hand flat on the bread (fingers up, plz), and gently saw through!
You’d be surprised how well this works.
