Bull Toothpick

I need to make a valcano in ONE DAY!?
I’m making toothpick houses in my math class and my team decided we wanted to make it inside a volcano. The whole design is centered around this volcano and I volunteered to do it.The problem is, I bought some “Paper Mache” at hobby lobby and it’s BULL ****! It won’t dry and my whole skeleton collapsed. Now I need to rebuild it. What can I use that drys fast and HARD. Plaster paris?
Hi,
You could stick with Paper Mache. Try this instead: Don’t add as much water and build something to keep it upright until it dries. Like prop pieces of wood or cardboard under it, or even build it over a small upside-down trash can until it dries. Paper Mache dries hard but it’s going to be flimsy until then.
I suppose you could use plaster, as long as you know what you’re doing. The only other thing I could think of would be buying styrofoam in the shape you need. You can cut it easily, it’s light, and fairly sturdy. You could paper mache on top of it and use it as the foundation. Or you could glue tissue paper of the desired color on it and cover it with a few coats of Mod Podge. You can buy Mod Podge at any craft store. It’s kind of like glue but it dries hard, clear, and glossy. I use it as a varnish for drawings and paintings, and also for craft projects. And it’s really cheap.
Good luck to you! Sorry you’re frustrated!
