Are spaghetti strap shirts inappropriate for 5-6 year old girls?
My 6 year old daughter and I just went shopping for summer clothes and most of the tops were either tank tops or had spaghetti straps. My wife seems to think spaghetti straps are too suggestive for a 6 year old to wear. All of the shirts are normal prints (flowers, butterflys, color camoflage, etc) and none of them have any logos or language that could be considered promiscuous, edgy, or defiant. It appears to me that tanks and straps are this year’s fashion trend and I consider this style of clothes to be cool, comfortable spring and summer wear. However, my wife thinks differently. Is she making too much of this or am I suffering from a man’s lack of fashion sense??? We appreciate your help. Thanks!
I bought my 7 year old daughter her first strappy T shirt recently. But it is pink, has butterflies on it and covers everything very well except the shoulders. And she is very tall and looks more like a 10 year old so it looks fine on her but would look totally ridiculous on her cousin who is the same age but very small and looks about 5 years old.
But I have a kids’ clothes shop and I have trouble even selling beach dresses which have spaghetti straps but are otherwise totally appropriate for children to some mothers of 10 year old children! And they are for wearing on holiday in very hot weather.
On the other side of the coin, I was shocked at some of the oufits worn by 8 year olds to a birthday party. They included black, high heeled sparkly silver sandals, leopard skin leggings, handbags etc.
So I think on balance I would probably agree with your wife until your daughter is 7 or 8.
