Coast Guard Jobs?
I’m joining the Coast Guard as I’ve just graduated. I still have to go up to MEPS and take my oath and get my physical. I’ve already taken my ASVAB and my recruiter said I scored very well and that I can choose whatever job in the Coast Guard I want. I was going to put my name on a waiting list to go to AST “A” school but the atrition rate is very high. That’s when I went to YouTube and saw this clip called “USCG Special Missions”. I found out the job is MSST and saw that they were wearing camo and using things like sniper rifles and such. I was wondering 1) if they were putting clips of other branches in this and they don’t really wear the camo or use those weapons and 2) if this is what the job is what rate would you initially go under? Boatswain Mate? And 3) Is MSST open to active duty members?
MSSTs are staffed only by active duty members. In a kind of similar but different mission is the Port Security Units. They’re staffed by reservists and deployed outside the continental United States (OCONUS). There is a PSU in the Persian Gulf.
