Airgun hunting question. Waltzer falcon hunter .22 or .25 caliber?
Hey again umm I was wondering which of the walther falcon hunter guns I should get. I was wondering I’d I should get the .22 caliber which has 1000 fps with standard .22 pellets or if I should get the .25 caliber which shoots 800 fps with standard .25 caliber pellets. I was confused about this because I have heard the .22 is better but Then I have heard the .25 is better because it has more knock down power. Please help me out on which of these two guns I should get. I want the choice based on power, and accuracy because I will be going hunting with the gun that is picked and I will he hunting anything up to a coon with a buddy of mine
The .22 caliber Walther Falcon Hunter gets more like 910fps with 14.5gr pellets.
The .25 caliber Falcon Hunter gets around 650fps with 27gr pellets.
IMO sporting air rifles perform best(combination of accuracy and trajectory) when you keep the MV between 800fps and 950fps.
There are far more .22 caliber pellets in the 14 to 15gr weight range to choose from.
Raccoon hunting?
Jim Chapman recommends a .22 or .25 caliber air rifle that delivers a minimum of 950fps with 28gr pellets(50ft-lbs). The Falcon Hunter is more like 25-26ft-lbs

For raccoon hunting, most use a .22 rimfire(LR) which delivers more like 135ft-lbs
