California pocket knife law? Maximum Length?
I am 18 years of age and I want to carry a pocket knife on me and it will NOT be concealed. What I mean by this is that the clip will be showing at all times. What is the maximum length of the blade of the pocket knife that I can carry on me?
I asked many officers but they tell me different things and BIG FIVE tells me its 4 inches.

Ben is only partially right. A folding knife is generally legal to possess no matter what length, and whether or not concealed. In a public building it is illegal to possess a knife over 4 inches long only if it has a fixed blade, or can be fixed in the open position (usually not true of a pocket knife). (Pen C 171b.) At a school, no fixed or fixable blade knife is permitted, and folding knives over 2.5 inches are illegal. (Pen C 626.10(a).) At a college, only fixed or fixable blade knives over 2.5 inches are prohibited. (Pen C 626.10(b).) Switchblades with blades 2 or more inches long cannot be carried. (Pen C 653k.)
There may be some local ordinances, but I believe that they are unenforceable in light of pervasive state law. I have not heard of local regulations being enforced recently.
