Custom Swell

Are the OTC/Drugstore brand mouth guards (for bruxism/tmj) helpful?
I bite my tongue and cheeks at night. My dentist wants to fit me for a mouth guard. Its pretty expensive, but I have to do something. I spent three days not able to eat last week because my tongue was so swollen from the biting.
I just saw a commercial for a drugstore brand of mouth guards for Bruxism.
I realize that the custom fit mold is the best. But what do you think of the drugstore guards? Are they helpful or would you suggest shelling the money out for the custom guard?
Like you said, a custom fit night guard is the best. If you only use it for bruxism then it should be okay but if you want it to help with your TMJ problems, a store bought nigh guard might make it worse. In order for your jaw to be in the proper place you need to have a night guard that fits your teeth properly so it keeps your jaw in place. I would highly recommend the custom fit one, even if it’s more expensive. If you don’t address your TMJ problems now it will only get worse as you get older and the treatment for that will be even more expensive.
@ Dr. Albert: PLEASE STOP USING CAPITAL LETTERS WHEN TYPING. IT’S HARDER TO READ AND IT’S ANNOYING AS HELL. OK? THANKS!
