can you cut through a pearl?
surely theres some mechanism thats capable of it right? what if i get a knife really hot? I dont care about ruining them!
Pearls have a moh’s hardness of 2.5-4.5. Anything higher than this should be able to cut through pearl. Steel is around 5.
So a steel knife theoretically should cut it but it will take a huge amount of effort and would probably destroy the knife and pearl. you’d need to keep sharpening your knife. Heating the knife will only weaken it.
I’d advise getting a jeweler to cut it. they would have proper equipment and will give a nice clean cut. I’d say they wouldn’t charge you much. It should be a simple job.
