Firefighter Rescue
Do I have a good chance of becoming a firefighter?
I was a supervisor of a search and rescue unit in the Coast Guard, I’m biligual in Eng and Span , 28 yrs old, and this summer I’ll have my Associates Degree… I want to join the Fire Department in Georgia or maybe even South Carolina. Are my chances pretty good? All I’ve heard are negatives and how it’s a shot in the dark- Any advice?
It is very competitive, that’s true. From what I understand there is a pretty good bit of hiring in Georgia. (A friend recently got hired outside of Atlanta and says there is still a load of hiring to go.)
Start testing anywhere you’d like to live. Take the tests very seriously and learn how to conduct yourself in an interview.
Your experience in the Coast Guard will serve you well, but it certainly is no guarantee.
Keep testing and you’ll do it.
