How to fix a sagging Navy utility (“8 point”) cover?
Hi,
I’m not referring to the crown. I’m asking about a ring of fabric immediately above the brim, approx. 1 1/4″ H, which sagged on me! Now I know why my cover always looked like the rate/rank insignia always looked crooked, it’s because there is a doggone wrinkle in that ring of material that has folded in on itself!
Do I really want to stuff a pickle jar inside the cover and iron all around it? NO.
Have you tried liquid starch? Not the spray on kind. Get a soft bristled brush and paint some liquid starch on the fabric. Then use a strip of cardboard cut to the height of the fabric, clothes pin it to make it stand up, and let it dry.
You did not mention the material it is. My 1st husband was in the Marines and he used liquid starch on his cover and stood it on a coffee can to dry. It looked smart.
