Why is no one working on a genuine, CGI-laden Godzilla film to help us forget the awful Sony version?
The Matthew Broderick film was an atrocity of the highest order. They just need to make a film w/the same FX to create the Godzilla we all know and love: indestructible and fire-breathing. And why have I never seen the Green Giant in an anime film? I’d settle for THAT right now.
…a sequel or off-shoot CGI based film probably will not happen, as the rights to borrow Toho’s classic character, expired a few years ago.
However, it appears that there is a film being worked on, as we speak, entitled “Godzilla vs. Deathla”, and is supposed to be specially produced for the IMAX theatre (with “Godzilla: 3D to the Max” being the alternate title. The creature, Deathla, is supposed to be similar to Godzilla’s old foe from the early seventies, Hedorah; in fact, the IMAX film is being directed by the veteran filmmaker who produced the original “Godzilla vs. Hedorah” (aka “…vs. the Smog Monster”).

…now, what I would REALLY like to see, is if someone would revive the original script of the stateside Godzilla, which was initially going to be directed by Jan de Bont (of “Speed” and “Twister”); it was supposed to feature a much more traditional look and feel of the classic Godzilla movies, and the big guy was supposed to battle a mythological creature called the Gryphon!!!
THAT would have been something to see!!!
