why does peat moss have a high carbon content?
I know that the high carbon content level makes it a good source for burning fuel, but WHY and HOW do they have a high content level?

Plants create cellulose as one end product from photosynthesis, which first fixes CO2 and H2O as glucose using energy from the sun. Glucose is then polymerized into cellulose.
All plants have a high carbon content because they are primarily composed of cellulose. The cellulose in the moss does not decay in the bog, meaning it is not released as an inorganic, the carbon remains bound as an organic material in the peat moss.
Just as wood, made of cellulose, burns, releasing heat, so can other materials with high cellulose content.
