i am doing a survey for my class…
i want to know everyones opinion about camo in combat.
swat operators, HRT guys, Marines, Army, any kind of infantry, seals…whatever you are.
i want an opinion on your favorite:
desert environment camo
jungle/forest environment camo
urban environment
water environment
Night ops
what ever else you want to throw in.
i would also like to hear dislikes about camos.
your opinion on what you think is most effective in combat camouflage in all types of environment and situation would be awesome!!!
I’ve seen the following while conducting recon missions in forested mountain terrain of in Nuristan, Afghanistan. Camoflage is critical when setting over-watch and SKT or ambush missions. It is Important, but Not Critical when conducting dismounted patrols in mountain terrain as units can come under fire from enemy forces on adjacent ridgelines. It is Relatively Unimportant when conducting mounted patrols or dismounted patrols in villages as the enemy already knows where you are, although obviously you wouldn’t want to wear bright clothes that make it easy for the enemy to zero on you.
ACU’s: Works very well for stationary target on bare granite only. Overall, it’s too light, especially when faded. As soon as target moves, even a small amount, the eye is drawn to it.
UCP-Delta: I never saw it, but we spray painted our ACU with brown paint to darken them, it didn’t work. The overall pattern is still too light especially when faded.
MARPAT: Dark, maybe too dark, very good for woodland. Easier to see if you’re looking in the area and target is moving. You will pick it up when they cross a lighter area like sand or granite. Almost impossible to see when target is stationary in woodland terrain.
BDU: Similar to MARPAT but not as good when close to target.
Multicam: Best overall. Difficult to see when stationary or moving on light or dark terrain.
