Hunting and gathering is what “primitive” cultures do to survive in some environments. Generally there is a split in labor. The men hunt and the women gather. That is somewhat of an oversimplification but it is a formula that has worked for many societies. Survival of the fittest is a phrase coined by Darwin to explain why some individuals survive and pass on their genes. They are not necessarily the fastest or the tallest or the smartest. They are the one that are most likely to survive in a particular environment. They are not necessarily the ones with the most offspring. Sometimes, selection favors slow reproduction as is the case with Pandas. Hunting and gathering was often the fittest culture to survive in certain environments until technology and agriculture became dominant.
