Knife Recon
what knife/knive should i buy?
I am thinking about cold steel recon or the cold steel recon tanto version, or maybe a ka bar. I have seen the cold steel promotional video and it impressed me, so i am for the cold steel knives atm. What do you think? Also could you please tell me the pros and cons between cold steel recon and its tanto version?
Thanks in advance
Danny
Cold Steel has made a name with their demonstration videos. I own two of them. The tanto point is meant to give more strength to the end of the blade while the clip point is better at initial piercing. Clip or dagger points, for instance, are weaker because they are “pointy”. I own the Recon folder with a tanto blade. It’s not as long as the Recon Tanto (fixed blade), of course, but it’s much more handy. The Recon Tanto is modeled after the Japanese katana. It has a purposeful curve for slashing motion cutting that is superior to a flat blade such as the Ka-Bar. Both are very strong knives and capable ones. Ka-Bars were “the” knife with Marines while I was at Camp Lejeune, NC. I bought my first Cold Steel knife and showed it to my Marine buddies. It was sharper out of the box than a Ka-Bar. It also seemed to hold an edge better. Several of my friends became Cold Steel devotees back then. The Ka-Bar has a combat tradition that I respect. It’s a very good knife. But I like the Cold Steel Recon Tanto more in a fixed blade; the Recon 1 folder if you want a large, strong knife that you can carry in a jeans pocket.
