What kind of tree is growing in my yard?

I have a tree growing in my hard that has begun to grow fruit on it. The fruit look like extremely large olives, but are covered in a fuzz that reminds me of Ontario peaches. They are green in colour. When I cut them open, they are a very light green in the center. There is no pit, but definitely some kind of “center” is forming. This center is easily enough removed with the sharp end of the knife. It smells and tastes very bitter at this point. What kind of fruit can I look forward to in the coming weeks??
