What can I use to remove rust stains from my stainless steel knives & forks?
Stainless steel doesn’t mean it will never stain. It means it stainsLESS than other metals. Even stainless steel will rust and corrode under the right circumstances. It has alot to do with water quality in your area.
Also, lemon or other citrus cleaning agents can make your flatware worse, not better. It can cause pitting.
Most rust can be scraped off with your thumbnail, but when you have them clean, keep them nicer longer by doing the following:
***steer clear of citrus dish detergents
***never soak longer than a few minutes
***don’t let them airdry, dry them completely, whether fresh from the sink or the dishwasher.
I waited tables in a nice restaurant through college and part of our “sidework” at close was wiping every piece of flatware down with coffee filters to keep them from rusting. (coffee filters don’t leave lint behind)
