A Swiss Army Knife Is The Best Pocket Knife
When searching for handy cutting tools, the best pocket knife is a Swiss Army knife. It was invented in 1897, and is continually being upgraded to maintain its handy status with new and practical additions. Let’s take a look at some of its progress as it has unfolded over time.
Because of its intent, there is a main blade and then a smaller secondary blade. The original also had a corkscrew, a can opener and a bottle opener. There is both a flat head and Phillips head screw driver, nail file and scissors. Other tools include a saw blade for wood, a file for metal, a hook to tighten the shoelaces of hiking boots.
With each progression of technology, more tools have been added with a couple of them for personal hygiene. A convenient pair of tweezers, and toothpick became standard issue, and for food preparation they added a blade to clean the scales off fish. During extended tours in the wilderness, these knives proved to be indispensable for hunters and catching fish.
Some of the newer additions to this wonder are the magnifying glass and a ball point pen. A magnifying glass was typically used to start a fire by focusing using the lens to focus the rays of the sun on dried leaves, which produced enough spark to ignite a fire. This way, the soldiers could stay warm as well as cook a meal of naturally gathered foods.
If all those tools were not enough, a few more were included to make the Swiss Army knife even more practical. A hex wrench with bits and carry case were added, along with pliers. These could be used to help build shelter from the wind and storms by using the pliers and hook to lace through rain slickers to create a roof like lean-to.
The age of computers added its necessities when they added a 32GB flash drive, a useful digital clock and an altimeter. Then they added a few more items like a LED light, a handy laser pointer for office personnel, and an MP3 music player. May as well count on there being a hex wrench with a snap on case holding the nuts and a set of pliers.
In 2010, the laser pointer and 32GB detachable Fingerprint USB Flash Drive and Bluetooth technology were added, which makes the perfect portable pocket tool for any terrain, or social situation. If that isn’t enough, there are plans to make a version with is ‘flight allowed’, for people who travel by airplane. This model won’t have any blades.
