Plain vs Combo Edge on an EDC?

I’m looking to get a new EDC with hiking/camping in mind and less focus on self-defense. I’ve been using a Leatherman Crater 33x for the past year and I’ve got my eye on the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian with a modified drop point, but I can’t decide to go with the plain or combo serrated edge. My current knife has a combo edge and it has served me well, but I’m wondering if anyone has any insight/suggestions. I’ll probably need it to cut open packages, make wood shavings for fires and possibly cut through ropes/bandages. I’ve heard a plain edge is really good if it’s kept sharp, but I don’t have my own sharpener yet.

I would have to say that if you already have a combo edge knife now you should try the plain edge. I bought a Benchmade orange griptilian with a plain edge about a year ago and love it. It’s a really nice all around knife. I took it on a 10 trip last summer and it was my EDC and I didn’t miss the combo edge at all. They’re not hard to keep sharp as long as you know how to sharpen them properly.
