What if a cat goes up against a long tail weasel?
A family of long tail weasels have moved in and gone into competition with my two cats for the local prairie gopher population.
Will this cause issues between the cat and the weasels ?
What damage can a weasel do to a cat if they do tangle …….. if any ?
Are weasels rabies carriers (the cats are vaccinated) ?
I’ve never heard of one with rabies but they’re like all weasels they’re VERY tenacious fighters so I’d be very wary of letting your cats out while they’re around. They do hunt during the day as well as night, too, so keeping them in just at night won’t help. I would think the weasels would steer clear of the cats, though, and they can definitely outrun a housecat.
Beautiful animals. We have the Short Tailed Weasels here in WA. I’ve seen them on hikes.
edit: Queen – why would “animal control” remove the weasels? They’re wild animals and have every right to live there. He’s not asking how to get rid of the weasels just whether or not his cats will be safe around them or not.
