Muskrat Red

Grade 11 biology help.?
I am doing my homework from the textbook and there is a table of animal common names, then their scientific names, and then the family they belong to.
Red squirrel (sciuridae) … sciuridae
shorttail weasel (mustela erminea) … mustelidae
groundhog (marmota monax) … sciuridae
mink (mustela vison) … mustelidae
eastern chipmunk (tamais striatus) … sciuridae
river otter (lutra canadensis) … mustelidae
fisher (martes pennanti) … mustelidae
muskrat (ondatra zibethica) … cricetidae
black-footed ferret (mustela nigripes) … mustelidae
So my question is how do i find which species are most closely related using this table?
Do you mean which two animals are more closely related?
Mustelidae is the weasel family, which includes ferrets, fishers, otters, mink, weasels, (and skunks which are not on your list).
I don’t see how you can see from the list who is more closely related (just by the list), obviously the others that are left are all in the squirrel family (sciuridae) and then the muskrat, which is cricetidae.
I guess the best way of going by the list is just going by the first names – mustela ______’s are all closely related – so the black-footed ferret, mink, and shorttail weasel are closely related to each other, more so than any other animals on the list.
