Plain Blade
I work in L.E. and want an auto knife for self defense. OTF or OTS? Plain or serrated blade?
Hello. I work in law enforcement (plain clothes), and I am looking for knife primarily for self defense in the event I can not access any of my other gear. I do want an automatic knife. I am not sure whether I should get an Out The Front or an Out The Side auto knife. Also should I get a plain or serrated blade? Thank you.

Auto knife? for defense….. Heck no, look up the Cold Steel AK-47, Emerson CQC-7 (waved), Spyderco Endura (Waved), Emerson Commander, etc… The common trait of these knives is that they are not autos and have no opening spring but are faster to deploy than autos of any type. Also, OTF Autos can have a disconnect of the spring from the blade if opened into an object, thus causing the blade to be unlocked forward or back, so it slides freely until pulled out manually into the open position. That said, If you really are a LEO, you know knife law for your area already, if not, and I lean toward not, then study knife law and get something legal.
