Purpose Knife

Who makes the best general purpose kitchen knife?
I want a knife that does it all and lasts a long time. Any suggestions?
I prefer J Henckels. Keep them properly sharpened, and do not wash them in the dishwasher. Hand wash and dry thoroughly, and they will last a good long time.
