What type of poem is this?
I need to know what form of poetry this is for a project:
When you ask God for a gift.,
Be thankful is he sends,
Not diamonds, pearls, or riches,
But the love of real true friends.
Among life’s precious jewels,
Genuine and rare,
The one that we call friendship,
Has worth beyond compare.
There is no special name — sonnet, limerick, haiku, etc. — for a poem in this form.
The poem consists of two quatrains (four-line stanzas), each of which has an xaxa rhyme scheme — that is, lines 2 and 4 in each quatrain rhyme with each other, while lines 1 and 3 don’t rhyme. That pattern is sometimes called “ballad rhyme.” (But that doesn’t mean this poem is a ballad.)
(With all due respect, TessLuv doesn’t know what she’s talking about. There are no two-line stanzas in the poem, and no rhyming couplets.)
