Rebel Flag
What are your views on the confederate/rebel flag?
I believe that the rebel flag is a symol of history, not hate. I believe that flying a rebel flag is not being racist, but reminding us not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
I believe that the flag is the flag that my ancestors fought and died for with their own blood. They did not own slaves, but I have letters that they wrote home during the war, they talk about fighting for their way of life, fighting to keep the government from telling them what to do, they did not want anybody telling them what they had to do. I had one uncle who owned a general store, he fought the war because of union tariffs that made imports more expensive than the overpriced northern goods. The flag to me is the flag that I will always hold dear to me with pride and will always do my best to tell the true story of the civil war, not the story of moral justification that is told today in order to make the north look better.
