Rider Imitation
A poem for those who…well…will you critique it please?

PONDERING A BOOK COVER

Why is there an elephant
walking off the edge
of a cliff,
illuminated by a full moon?
He might fall
on that ship,
precariously close to
that precipice where
that horse is rearing
and might throw his
rider into a mountain.

In the foreground,
there’s a derby hat
impaled upon a fountain pen.
Is the hat the imitation of the
pre-pubescent emo soul?

And a clock on rosary beads
drips from the desk–
are we fading away,
should I say a prayer?
This what happens when
my only light
is an egg in a lamppost
from a century ago.
Author’s Note: I was looking at a singularly odd book cover, and wrote this. Hence the insanity.

Wow that’s some wacky book cover or perhaps you have eaten a hallucinogenic mushroom? To tell the truth if you didn’t say it was a book cover I would have assumed that is what this poem is about. I’m very disappointed that it isn’t. Your poem might have been better if it was.
