My dog ate a used tampon!?
my dog swallowed a used tampon on saturday morning.. he vomitted on sunday night 3 times he then had a normal bowel movement.. the next morning he vomitted twice i then took hin to the vet. they did x ray and saw no blockage. i have not found the tampon in his feces. the doctor said he was positive for panceratitis and his white count is elevated with a temp of 103.0 they are monitoring him with iv fluids and lactaid ringers. he has not vomitted in 2 days now and has diarreah.. what else should i do? what do u think is happening? he is in good spiriits and barking at the vet.. by the way he is 10 y/0 jack russell. please help me.
Xrays wouldn’t show a soft object such as a tampon. It would show if he swallowed something such as a rock. The way a tampon would “show” would be if the small bowel were to be blocked with something, it would be enlarged and distended. Pancreatitis is a different sickness, I’ve posted a link below to tell you more about it. His stomach may have dissolved the tampon or it may not have gone that far down yet that its effects would show up on an Xray. It may take some time for it to show if it hasn’t already passed. They may try to treat it medically (laxatives) or possibly surgically, but usually that’s only if it’s very apparent that it’s causing a blockage.
It’s good that you got him to the vet quickly.
