What is the procedure to find if salt water sugar water or plain water is better for plants?
You’d grow a single type of plant so that all other conditions (soil mix, pot size, temperature, light) are the same, but you’d water them with the three different types of water – plain, with sugar added or salt added. And you’d give them all the same amount of water, at the same intervals (every ___ days).
At the end of the specified time for your experiment to run, you’d measure the plants according to how you want to measure “growth”. Height would be easiest, biomass (weight of the dried plant material) more “scientific”.
If you want all plant to survive, use a very dilute salt and sugar solution – too high of a concentration of solutes in the water may kill the plants before the time for the experiment is up.
