What are the rules for checking knives with airport luggage?
I am going to Philmont with my Boy Scout troop and I want to bring my new Sog knife, however, it has a 7 inch blade. I want to know if airport security will take the knife even if I put it in my checked baggage.
You should check with the your airline to be sure, but for the most part you should have no problem taking your knife as long as it is in your CHECKED bag. Of course there is no way you can take it in a carry on. TSA routinely allow people to check firearms in their checked luggage so a knife should be ok. Since many local laws may prohibit openly carrying a long knife be sure it stays packed until you get to your destination.
