Series Congress
Your suggestions for the new series “Congress gone Wild!”?

Of course it’s not really a series (yet). But congress does seem to becoming more and more of a circus. What bills leave you shaking your head? Reasons are encouraged and appreciated.

A couple of my suggestions along with reasons:
S. 247 – Cash for Clunkers Bill – Up to $4500 to Trade in Old Car — (Why isn’t high gas prices enough incentive?)

H.R. 40 – Reparations for African-Americans — (What about Indians, Chinese, Hispanics, Irish, Italians… ? )

The GIVE Act is the one that scares me. It would make volunteer service mandatory. “Mandatory volunteerism” isn’t volunteerism. It’s the government making the citizens work for it for free. I’d even call if “forced labor”. FYI, only government approved activities would count as volunteerism. Go read up on it. This is scary stuff and it has already passed the House.

Irving Fine Celebration – Great Performances from the Library of Congress, Volume 16

The music of Irving Fine, wrote Aaron Copland, “wins us over through its keenly conceived sonorities and its fully realized expressive content” and is notable for “elegance, style, finish and a convincing continuity.” Fine (1914-1962) was an American composer of masterfully crafted scores who displayed a remarkable gift for lyricism, writing music that inevitably “sings”. This CD documents an im…

The Race of the Century: The Official Story of Australia’s Controversial 1983 America’s Cup Win

From 1851 to 1983, the world’s greatest yachting trophy was held in the tight grasp of the New York Yacht Club. The spectacular victory of Australia II over Liberty in a sensational final race in 1983 smashed America’s 132-year grip on the Cup. The win was shrouded in controversy over Australia II’s unorthodox “winged keel,” a dispute that still echoes as American entries try to retake the Cup in …
