Skull Bone
Hot spot showed up on skull from bone scan?

I got a bone scan and it showed a “hot spot” on the upper left side of my skull. So I then got an X-ray and the results said that no abnormalities were detected.
If so, then why do I have a “hot spot”? And what excactly IS a “hot spot”? And what’s going on???

thanks God bless
Please help, I’m only 12 and I’m scared.

A “hot spot” means that the substance you were injected with collected moreso in that spot that surrounding areas. Bone scans are used primarily to detect the spread of metastatic cancer. Because cancer cells multiply rapidly, they will appear as a hot spot on a bone scan. This is due to the increased metabolism, or cell activity, of the cancer cells. Bone scans may also be used to stage the cancer before and after treatment in order to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. Since I don’t know your history, and I’m not a Radiologist nor a doctor I can’t really tell you whats wrong. All I can tell you is what a hot spot is. You should speak with your doctor. If the x-ray came up clear, my guess is that everything is ok. But again, I am not a doctor.
