Spider Web
Can a spider’s web have a stunning effect on prey that get caught in it?
A friend of mine ran her arm into a spider web today and she says it feels like she has glass dust stuck in her arm. It’s all red and looks like a rash. Anyone know of any spiders that spin a poisonous web in the Ohio area? If so what’s best to treat it? I suggested washing and hydrocortizone.
Spider silk consists mainly of proteins and enzymes that
are not normally allergens.
It would be likely she also came in contact with vegetation
that she is allergic to, or something like poison oak/ivy.
If this persists, a dermatologist may be able to determine
the source and a treatment.
The hydrocortizone will help the itch, but may not alleviate
the rash.
It may also be that she received a bite from the spider.
If there has been no pain after a couple hours, a bite
would be harmless.
