Is it Illegal for minors to carry folding knives in San Diego, California?
Im 14, and was recently in a car accident after a camping trip. the car went off the road and flipped. the seat belts jammed and i cut me (in the passenger seat) and my brother (driving) out with my spyderco manix. we were both injured slightly but we made it out ok. i swore to myself that i would have a knife on me from then on ( except school and no-weapons areas like airports). i live in san diego and i was wondering if it is illegal to carry a knife on myself. i would carry my ffg spyderco delica. ( under 4 inch knife, fully manual.). thanks for all your help!
There are no state laws regulating knife possession by age. Except in particular areas (such as those where you say you do not intend to carry a knife), and switchblades, there are no state laws regulating knife possession by length. The only knives which cannot be carried concealed on your person are fixed blade knives and folding knives in a locked open position. (BTW, a knife carried openly in a belt sheath is not concealed.) There are no laws prohibiting carrying knives concealed in vehicles. Although some cities have laws regulating knife possession by minors, the City of San Diego does not appear to have any such laws.
Bottom line, you can carry your knife.
