What is the best type of steel for a survival knife?
I am thinking of buying myself a survival knife. I just want to know what the best type of steel is for quality purposes.
5160 is the best. After that I like L-6 and crane cable damascus. These are the best I’ve tested. Unfortunately you cant get the L-6 or crane cable damascus from a factory they are used by custom makers. One of these blades with a differential temper can cut the last 6″ from a hanging rope, be dropped on their tip and dig a divot out of a concrete floor and be put in a vise and bent without breaking.
