Vapor Knife
Is my fridge still good – Punctured coil?
I have a mini bar fridge with a tiny freezer area. My roomate was defrosting it and got impatient with the process and proceeded to use a butter knife to pry the ice loose. He seemed to puncture the coil and there was a big blast of vapour (the fridge was unpluged). My question is has this completely distroyed my fridge? I pluged it back in and seems to work still but have since unplugged it since I’d rather be sure. Could I just remove the freezer portion? It seems to be removable? Its an Igloo Mini Bar fridge.
There also seems to be a hissing noise when I start it up. Is that normal, I may just now be parinoid?
Your room-mate owes you another unit. Bottom Line. Its trashed. You exascerbated the problem when you plugged it in; the hissing is either the suction or the high side venting….( that took atmospheric air deeper into the system) Its ruined. The roomie couldn’t even wait an hour? Put a fan on it next time…. gawd.
