WD Double Bowl Sink – Number 3 Sink

Based on traditional French farmhouse ceramic sinks, the WD Double Bowl Sink is in the top five most popular sinks on sinks.co.uk and has been developed specifically with the UK market in mind. Being slightly smaller than the Normandy French farmhouse sink with measurements of 900x450x200mm, it benefits from having 90mm wastes in two bowls rather than 60mm, the standard size for a fireclay farmhouse sink. monobloc taps The 90mm basket strainer wastes are available in English bronze, non-tarnish brass or Satin chrome finishes. The larger wastes means that, unlike other sinks of its kind, this traditional French farmhouse ceramic sink can be fitted with a waste disposal unit, a very practical feature. A monobloc mixer tap can be fitted to this vintage sink simply by drilling at the back of the sink between the bowls, although it cannot fit a two or three hole tap. It can also fit into a standard 600mm deep worksurface due to its size, giving you the option of installing taps in the workspace behind the double bowls.

Superior to standard ball clay which is used for other sinks on the market, top quality fireclay is used to make the WD Double Bowl Sink. Fireclay will last a lifetime if treated with care being so durable.

Traditional French farmhouse sinks are suitable for all kinds of kitchen schemes, as they sit comfortably in traditional wooden kitchens, classic painted designs and even modern kitchens in cutting edge colours and finishes. Following the advent of the Belfast and Butler sinks in the late 1800s, French farmhouse sinks offered an alternative to those designs. Two French brothers called Emile and André Porcher started a fireclay sink business at a factory in northern France, using the local clay to make their ceramic sinks. The clay they used was of superior quality and more refined than the crude red Staffordshire clay used at Potteries. This superior clay meant that the Porcher brothers were able to manufacture top quality fireclay sinks. Some of their original designs are still in production today, showing that quality materials and good design stand the test of time. Porcher sinks are still in production today at the company’s factory in the Loire in France, and it remains one of the oldest and most respected names in the business.

Keep your fireclay sink lasting a lifetime by following a few simple cleaning guidelines. For daily stains from coffee or wine, use a non-abrasive liquid to prevent the stains from building up. When this doesn’t work for tougher stains, use a manufacturer-recommended cleaning product like Astonish, designed just for this type of fireclay ceramic sink and available for purchase at sinks.co.uk. Never use a plastic washing up bowl in the sink as dirt can collect on the base of the bowl and scratch the ceramic glaze. Soap Dispensers
