Walking Horse
Does any one know where I could find out how to do the walking horse show braid~?
We just got my mare back from the trainer and want to take her to a show and need to know how to make the walker braid.
It’s essentially a half-french braid (if you know how to do those), incorporating ribbon. Look on youtube, or simply practice on your horse – you may find a unique way that works well with your horses’ mane that other people don’t employ. As for me, doing a braid like that, you fold the first end of the ribbon around the beginning of the braid (up near the poll) on one of the three strands to be braided. Like a french braid, with each plait, you are bringing in more hair, but from only one side, alternating the additions with each strand (so that it stays even). If that doesn’t make sense, go ahead and google a french braid… you can use that basic idea to doing a walkers braid. Just practice, and eventually you’ll get it down.
