Why didn’t the Dan Wesson Revolvers with interchangeable barrels ever take off?
The other day at the range, I saw this OLD thing called a “Dan Wesson Pistol Pac.”
It was an attache case. It had a .357 Magnum revolver in it. You could exchange the barrels in about four or five minutes. The pac had a 2 and 1/2 in barrel, a four inch barrel, a six inch barrel, and an eight inch barrel. Plus four different grips from oversized to undercover. It was great. You could make the gun a small undercover snub nose, or make it a huge eight inch barrel hunting or metallic target gun. I thought it was brilliant.
Why didn’t those ever take off and become really popular?
I don’t know unless it was the price or maybe that people who bought revolvers didn’t want to be bothered with the hassle of changing barrels. I have a Dan Wesson, and it’s a damned fine handgun. One of the big accuracy advantages it has is that the cylinder lock is in the front of the cylinder so there is no play where it aligns with the forcing cone and barrel.
If you buy the gun, make sure that when you change the barrel you check the cylinder gap with the gauge that comes with the revolver.
